Anne Frank’s story is well-known around the world. Here are five fast facts you may
not know:
- In 2013, more than one million people visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.
- The play, The Diary of Anne Frank, opened in New York City on October 5, 1955. It won many awards, including the 1955 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
- Anne’s diary has been published in more than 65 languages and has sold more than 30 million copies.
- Anne’s older sister, Margot, also kept a diary while the family was in hiding, but it was never found.
- Anne had to leave her cat, Moortje, behind when she went into hiding.
Anne died in March 1945, a few days after her sister. Only a few weeks later, in April 1945, British soldiers freed the prisoners who were still alive at Bergen-Belsen, the concentration camp where Anne died.
