At first glance, chapter books look simple enough to write. I’m talking about books for early readers, in Grades 2, 3, and 4. Take a simple storyline, add a couple of characters and start writing. Six thousand words later, you’re done. Easy peasy. WRONG! The story might be simpler, but it still requires the elements and development of anything you write. And kids are tough critics, happy to toss a book aside if it’s boring, childish, confusing or didactic. On Thursday, January 16, Calgary author Maureen Bush will speak at the SCBWI, sharing her insights into the world of chapter books. Maureen has published several chapter books with two significant Canadian publishers. Check out Maureen’s website at www.maureenbush.com and join us at 7:00 pm in the Community Meeting Room at Southcentre Mall. Everyone is welcome!
