Pamela is a children’s author, freelance writer, and presenter in Calgary, Alberta.
Pamela enjoys writing about the diverse animals and habitats of Alberta. As a teenager, she chose volunteering at the Calgary Zoo over hanging out at the mall. On weekends at the zoo, she made friends with Peaches the porcupine and spent part of each day cuddling Rosie, the boa constrictor. Her interest in prickly, furry, slimy, slinky animals continues in her stories. Pamela’s chapter books for children, Cougar Frenzy, Bats in Trouble, Salamander Rescue and Ospreys in Danger are published by Orca Book Publishers. Her next book, Fire on the Mountain, is due out Winter 2022.
Since 2010, Pamela has written more than 50 non-fiction books for children. She has been active in the Calgary writing scene, including the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Mystery Writers Inc., and – a long time ago – the Calgary Writers Association.
Her first career was in education. Pamela taught junior high and high school in Alberta and British Columbia and still enjoys being in the classroom. She has used her books to develop presentations with curriculum connections for different grade levels, focused specifically on STEM and writing pillars.
Pamela has experience speaking to adult writers as well, about topics like Writing for Hire, Query Letters, and Getting Started in Children’s Writing.
