Ospreys thrive in Calgary

???????????????????The next time you see a large bird soaring overhead, have a close look at it – it might just be an osprey! There are several active nests within the city of Calgary.  The fishing must be good here, thanks to healthy rivers and streams, not to mention man-made lakes that are stocked with thousands of pounds of trout each year.  The ENMAX Avian Management Program keeps an eye on the ospreys and has even built 14 nesting platforms for the birds.  These platforms benefit the ospreys and Calgarians: the birds have a safe place to raise their family and Calgarians enjoy uninterrupted power service, which is something I know that I rely on.  What can happen when an osprey builds its nest on a power pole?  Check out my book, Ospreys in Danger, which was inspired by a true event in Waterton Lakes National Park.

New this year, ENMAX has added a searchable map to their website, so you can find your nearest osprey neighbours.  Have a look at the map and the webcam ENMAX has installed on the osprey nest near the Calgary Zoo. https://www.enmax.com/community/keeping-up-with-the-ospreys
