Making connections at the CPL Writers’ Weekend

PamToday’s Writers’ Weekend at the Central Public Library was a wonderful success once again.  About a dozen Calgary writing groups set up booths, chatted with attendees in between sessions, and gave away candy, books and workshop registrations.  We connected with CAFE, the Calgary Association of Freelance Editors (now there’s a user-friendly acronym!), who promised to send a member out to one of our meetings to present information about their group.  The IFWITS were there – they are as fun as their acronym suggests.  Some of the board members of When Words Collide stopped by the SCBWI booth to encourage our members to submit work to their new short story contest.  And the Calgary Crime Writers creeped us all out with police tape and a skull decorating their booth.Jacqueline

I have to say that the SCBWI booth had the most books on display, by far.  Picture books, mid-grade books, YA, non-fiction, and audio books attracted a great deal of attention.  And 54 new people requested information about our group!  I believe the day was a success.

Many thanks go out to our Featured Members who helped at the booth:  Carollyne, Janet and Shenaaz.  Thanks to Jacqueline who came in from Bragg Creek and Halli who came in from Rosemary.  It was great spending a few hours with all of you!

Our biggest thank you must go to the library’s dynamic duo, Julia and Patrick, for their work in planning an interesting and varied program that drew so many Calgary writers from their sanctuaries to explore the city’s writing community.  We really look forward to next year!Julia and Patrick
